CLINICS

A wide variety of clinics is offered by this practice.

Antenatal Clinic - We run an antenatal clinic every Friday morning from 9.00 - 11.30am. It is run by one of the doctors with the help of the practice nurse/healthcare assistant.

The midwife also runs her clinic at the same time in the surgery.

Child Health Surveillance Clinic - Appointments are offered at the end of our morning surgery each day for child development checks and immunisations.

An opportunity is also presented to discuss any other problems, eg sleeping, feeding or indeed any other health issues that may be causing concern.

Minor Surgery - The doctors carry out a range of surgical procedures. You should consult your doctor to decide if the procedure could be carried out at the surgery.

Liquid Nitrogen Clinic - This is run once a month on a Thursday morning. It involves removal of certain lesions by freezing them. Please see one of the doctors for authorisation for treatment at this clinic.

Cervical Smears - Cervical smears are carried out in the surgery by the doctors or practice nurse. All our female patients aged between 24-49 will be invited to attend every three years and those between 50-64 every five years unless an early repeat is required following an abnormal result.

Contraceptive Services - All doctors and the practice nurse provide a full range of contraceptive services. Fitting of uterine contraceptive device (coil) can be arranged with one of the doctors.

Immunisation For Foreign Travel - As well as the practice nurse providing comprehensive advice about overseas travel and vaccination, we are registered as a YELLOW FEVER CENTRE. Please make an appointment to see the nurse at least eight weeks before intended date of travel.

Flu Vaccination - Influenza vaccination is particularly recommended for patients with heart, lung or kidney disease, diabetes and patients over the age of 65. Please contact the reception staff in September for details of the vaccination dates and to make an appointment.

CLINICS RUN BY THE PRACTICE NURSE

Appointments for well patient checks, asthma, family planning, cervical smears, travel clinics, pregnancy/preconception advice clinics, child and adult immunisations and well persons clinics are made at the patient’s convenience.

SERVICES OUTSIDE THE NHS

Certain certificates and examinations are not covered by the NHS and for these a fee is charged according to the British Medical Association recommended scales. Such services include private certificates, holiday cancellation certificates, fitness to travel, freedom from infection certificates, BUPA, PPP etc claim forms, insurance certificates for continued sickness, passport forms etc, medical examinations, fitness to drive, fitness for certain sports, pre-employment medicals, HGV etc.

SICK NOTES

A doctor's sick certificate is not required to cover the first seven days of an illness involving time off work. Completion of a self-certificate is all that is needed. This form is usually presented to you by your employer upon return to work and is also available from your local DSS office. Periods of illness exceeding seven days do require a doctor’s certificate. If, for whatever reason, you require a doctor’s certificate to cover sickness for less than seven days, this can be provided but a charge will be made.
